Panthers Clean Sweep

While the rain and inclement weather was causing cancellations and rain delays here in the area all three levels of high school boys volleyball was being played at Mehlville High School hosting the Cadets from CBC. Two and a half hours later, an overturned decision, a short comeback and the Panthers had won all three levels in two games each.

The freshmen game was being promoted as the most interesting of the three levels as this was a battle between two teams that had not yet won. Half way through the first game they were tied at eight but Mehlville poured it on to win 25-15.  Mehlville came out after the break to keep the momentum going to win two straight with a score of 25-11.  This was Mehlville freshmen Panthers first win while the Cadets remain winless.

Around the corner we join the JV boy’s game in progress during the first game. It was a closely battled game but the Panthers came out on top 25-18.  The second game was a different story as the Cadets were not going away.  It started off tied at twenty five and each team would get a point and the other would tie it up.  Mehlville got a point to go ahead 30-29 and the next volley the senior referee awarded the point to the Cadets thereby making it 30-30.  However the Panthers challenged the call and after review with the floor referee the decision was reversed and point awarded to the Panthers giving them the win 31-29.

The varsity game was the Cadets chance to prevent the sweep while the panthers were motivated. The panthers took the first game battling against the resiliency of the Cadets 25-18. However the cadets came out in the second game a little slow and at one point the Panthers led 11-3. The Cadets fought back into the game but just not enough as the Panthers won 25-21.

This was a clean sweep for the Panthers. Head Coach Samantha Mueller says she was happy for all three levels as they played good and they played hard.
